2008 Schedule and Goals
Well, I finally found some time to sit down and write. I am sitting in PA at my parents home for the holidays. I ran 10 with the old man yesterday, so much for an easy training pace run. It was a lot of fun. It felt so good just to run.... Not to think about heart rate, is my foot sore, etc. It was fun to let go and run just for the sake of running. Yeah, all the science behind training is great, but sometimes I just think you need to get out there and just do it.
Things have been crazy busy. At the office, on the coaching front, I really needed this break to PA. Something I tried this year for the holidays for anyone out there reading, and might need a tip to get through this season with some reasonable fitness. I just promised myself not to take any "zeros". Do a little something everyday. Even if it is to just stretch. As long as you are doing something everyday, you are still being relatively consistent. And consistency over time is what yields results.
With all this free time that I am not used I am attempting to get down my 2008 schedule and goals. I am going to make my goals public this year. I think there is nothing more motivating than laying everything out there for everyone to read.
Jan./Feb. Epic Camp New Zealand: This is something I dreamed about for sometime. I just happen to be lucky enough to be going this year. I am going to have a computer with me and will be tracking my progress and experience on my website/blog. My goal for epic is to finish all the minimums of the camp injury free. I want to be able to absorb all the training. I am going to be tested right before I leave to be sure I have the most up to date numbers. I need to train within myself, so I suspect to be doing a lot of riding by myself. lol This is going to be a great life experience. I am hoping to grow as a coach, athlete and person. To find out a little more about myself. I will get more into how I am preparing for this, both physically and mentally in some future posts.
April. Ironman Arizona: This is the big for the year. It will set up how the rest of my season goes. It will be my first race in the 30-34 age group. So I have to bring some pretty solid game. Goal for the race is to finish the day on the podium. Kona slot.
May. St. Croix 70.3: I am going to have 6 clients racing, and some special plans on the island to look forward to. The priority is going to be more of a supportive role. Still, goal is the podium, and clearwater slot.
June. Buffalo Spings 70.3: Training race.
July. Off month. Baby sis is getting married. Maintain fitness. Mid season break.
Oct. Ironman World Championships, Kona. Top 10 age group finish.
Nov. Ironman 70.3 World Championships, Clearwater. Top 10 age group finish.
Thats it for now. Hope everyone had a great Holiday.
Train safe. Time to go run and burn off some cookies.
