5 weeks till St. Croix

This past weekend was a pretty big training weekend. I noticed it on Sat. I did a solid brick, my first of the year, 85 steady on the bike, followed by 8 mile run in 1hr flat. Then proceeded to mow the lawn, edge, and some basic housework. My point for telling you all this is emphasize what consistency has done for me over the years. I am basically training for a half right now, and when I look back at my first two Ironman, I couldn't even do the training I am doing now for a half. The point is that sometimes we train in order to be able to do the training required to eventually reach our goal. Simply, we train to be able to train. I know, sounds crazy. I guess that is where the patience in our sport come into play. Everyone wants to get fast the quickest way possible. People ask me all the time, what I did different last year to qualify for Kona? It wasn't one thing, or one year. It has been a five year process. All the learning, all the training, all the little things. Well back to the yard work after training. I think my friend and I had this conversation before. We were talking about how we know we are fit and ready for a race when we can train hard in the morning then do all our honey-dos. That is a true Ironman. lol Racing this weekend and looking forward to racing hard and not running over any volunteers like last time. LOL

Quote

Just came across this on Gordo's site.

The Magic Formula

A self sustaining circle of sustained action over time.

I just thought it was perfect in regards not only to multisport training but just life in general. I am going to keep revisiting that quote throughout the year. Here is Gordo's site. He has got some great stuff on there. www.gordoworld.com

Coaching

Well, I have been putting this off for awhile. I am talking about coaching. I guess I never thought I knew enough, or that I didn't have the credentials, or it just may have been the fear or being resposible for someone else's passion. All that aside, I offically launched North Texas Performance Coaching this past weekend. I am extremely excited and hope I can help some people out. I have one client now, and will try to keep the number low for the first year. I want the program to be really individualized, and that takes a lot of energy. I am working on a website. I hope to run it in conjunction with North Texas Performance Chiropractic, and eventually open a Performance Center. I have lots of things I am working on right now.

One the training front. Things have been going well. Started to get back in good form. Diet is back on target. Ahmed has me doing a sprint this weekend. Looking forward to racing again. Thats it for now.

Goals and Upcoming Season

Well, I have been pretty lacks with my blog lately. A lot has been going on I don't even know where to start. The Kona camp was amazing and allowed me to do a lot of thinking about what I wanted out of myself for the upcoming season. Believe me you do a lot of soul searching when you are going 4MPH into a head wind and just plain suffering. While I was suffering, I started to think about a goal for an Ironman. I realized to get there it is going to take at least another 2 years to develop enough to achieve that goal. So I am training right now for another break through a couple years from now. On our way up to Hawi, Ahmed and I came up with a plan for this year. I am going to spend the year working on getting some speed back. I am going to do St. Croix and BSLT. Of course I am going to these races to qualify, which is always my number one goal. But I am really looking long term. I love the Ironman distance, and if I have to take a year off from it for my own good, in order to accomplish a long term goal, then so be it. Training is going well. I have to say that I am enjoying going faster and not putting in such long hours. I have also taken on my first client. I am really enjoying sharing my training philosophy and watching them progress. That's it for now. Now that the season is starting I am going to be more active on this blog.
