5 weeks till St. Croix
This past weekend was a pretty big training weekend. I noticed it on Sat. I did a solid brick, my first of the year, 85 steady on the bike, followed by 8 mile run in 1hr flat. Then proceeded to mow the lawn, edge, and some basic housework. My point for telling you all this is emphasize what consistency has done for me over the years. I am basically training for a half right now, and when I look back at my first two Ironman, I couldn't even do the training I am doing now for a half. The point is that sometimes we train in order to be able to do the training required to eventually reach our goal. Simply, we train to be able to train. I know, sounds crazy. I guess that is where the patience in our sport come into play. Everyone wants to get fast the quickest way possible. People ask me all the time, what I did different last year to qualify for Kona? It wasn't one thing, or one year. It has been a five year process. All the learning, all the training, all the little things. Well back to the yard work after training. I think my friend and I had this conversation before. We were talking about how we know we are fit and ready for a race when we can train hard in the morning then do all our honey-dos. That is a true Ironman. lol Racing this weekend and looking forward to racing hard and not running over any volunteers like last time. LOL
