Day 5
Well remember when just yesterday I wrote that I had my most humbling experience on a bike. Well yesterday even topped that. Let me start by saying that I finally mustered up enough energy to get to the computer today. The day started by a tough ocean swim workout, where Ahmed had us doing beach start after beach start, drafting drills, etc. Had some coffee and a quick breakfast, then on the bike. The weather forcast. 20-30 MPH winds with 40 MPH gusts. So we all started together, ended up hooking up with this pro cyclist. We pretty much hammered all the way down to Hawi. Where he just happened to be parked. So that meant that I had the head wind all to myself the entire ride home. Everyone else was smart and turned around early because the wind was so bad. So after some lunch, a coke, and changing two flats, I headed back. To make a long story short, I suffered like I have never suffered before. Here is the part where ya"ll are just going to rag on me. For those who know the Queen K, I made it to the airport, hit 100 miles and put my bike in the sag wagon and got a ride home. Yes, the sag wagon. LOL It was my breaking point. I have always finished everything, and I couldn't pedal one more stroke. So I got back in time for an hour massage. Felt guilty and headed out for a run. Even stopped to watch the sunset. Needless to say I was in bed for half the day today. I got my morning swim but not much more. I am hoping to get a little recovery today and back down to Hawi tomorrow.
