"It's baked in the cake."

That was a comment a patient said to me this week when I was telling him what I was doing and how tight and just plan crappy I felt. The point of the comment is that there isn't anything else I can do now to gain any fitness. It is what it is. It is baked in the cake. I never heard it put like that, so thought I would share. Well now to this week. I took Mon. off and everything was ok after the race on Sun. I was feeling alittle sluggish on Tues. , but pushed through a 25 mile bike followed by 8.5 miles off the bike. Just had tired legs. Bagged my swim that night. Woke up Wed. feeling so tight. Got 3000m in at lunch. Cut my 40 mile ride back to 20 miles on the computrainer. Thurs. I was just crazy tight and nothing was helping. I was stretching constantly. Rolling on the foam roller every 10 min. You know just everything. I cancelled my track workout with Ahmed, but did mange 8.5 mile easy run. I usually see "The Princess of Pain Pauline" on Fridays, but called and got in with her in the evening. Helped a lot but was pretty sore. More on her later. She has helped me so much I don't even know where to start right now. So that leaves me here sitting at the computer today. Got 3100m in earlier. Here, I will list my swim workout so I fit in with Steveo. lol 300s, 200d, 3x100 very fast 15 sec rest, 200d, 8x100 sprint triathlon pace 15 sec rest, 200d, 2x500 HIM pace 30 sec rest, 100 cooldown Well anyway I am still pretty tight and sore from my massage so I am thinking of bagging my 20 miles computrainer ride. I guess I am going to just see how I feel this weekend, and use my best judgement on what I should and shouldn't do. More to come.

Having awareness of your body and listening (at least somewhat) by modifying your workouts is huge.
Staying on the cake analogy, you have done a tremendous amount of work since you began training for traithlons and earned your way to Kona - its the icing on the cake. Enjoy every minute of it!

We'll be thinking of you!

I am in the process of re working it based on how I feel right now. Basically what I wanted to do was decrease my volume and increase my intensity. Decreasing my volume wasn't a problem, but the added intensity I think is messing with me. I am going to swim a ton until I get my legs back and go from there.

DO, rest and cut volume, get massages and visualize success

DON'T eat lots of cake, cookies, ice cream, brownies, pork bbq, beer and wine, like I just did tonight..

PS- that is a kick ass swim w/o. I like the 500's set after being a bit tired. But drills are for kids!

Think of how delicious your cake is going to taste! It is going to be one of the most decedant cakes you have ever experienced. The amount of preparation and hard work that has taken place to create this masterpiece is a testament to your craftsmanhship. You have spent endless hours mulling over what ingredients to put in the cake. Each individual ingredient has been carefully choosen and you have a good idea how they taste. The combination of what they taste like all mixed together is yet to be discovered. I have a good feeling you have created a tasty recipie that gourmet bakers will be fighting over for years to come. Let us also remember how much pleasure you have derived from preparing this cake. The amount of hard work, dedication, and love you have poured into this creation is a true inspiration. You have been given a wonderful gift of insight and fortune to take on and complete this task. Never forget that! I Love you Bro!!! I am soooo proud of you! I am with you every step of the way. When you are weak I am there giving you strength. When you feel tired I will give you energy. When you feel heavy I will make you light. I look forward, with great anticipation, to the day of hearing about how your cake tasted. Enjoy every bite bro. It's your cake and nobody or nothing can take that away from you.

There you are. I was thinking the other day, this was the first Ironman I had to perpare on the bike myself. I have had you for the bike for 5 Ironman. I learned so much from you. I wouldn't have been able to train for Kona solo like I have without the hammering we have done for the past three years. It isn't so much the physical benefit, but the mental stuff we used to go through. I know you will be watching every step of the way in Kona. And remember, like I told you in AZ. The race is for me, but the bike is always be yours. We all miss you here.
